The SFP-ER is a miniature Ethernet extender that improves bandwidth capacity and service reach over existing copper lines. By enabling delivery of 100 Mbps beyond the distance limit of 100 m (328 ft), it allows network operators to avoid costly installations of new fiber lines for point-to-point Ethernet connectivity.
Housed in a small form factor pluggable (SFP) enclosure, the SFP-ER is designed for quick and simple insertion into any 100BaseFx Ethernet port with an MSA-compatible socket.
SFP-ER is based on the proprietary RAD technology that allows full 100 Mbps Ethernet bandwidth to be extended over 2-wire, 4-wire or 8-wire copper lines (full duplex on each pair). Maximum distance coverage over 8-wire lines is 550 meters (1,804 ft).
