Alternative service providers have been at the forefront of converged service delivery. Without the burden of legacy infrastructure, alternative providers are free to leverage advanced network platforms to satisfy demands for high-bandwidth, low cost-per-megabit Ethernet/packet-based services. However, economically reaching out-of-region customers can be a challenge due to the need to use third-party leased facilities or unbundled copper links where self-owned fiber or wireless is unavailable or impractical.
