RAD Unveils New Fiber Optic Multiplexer for TDM, Ethernet and High Speed Data

Allows Legacy and New Packet-Based Services to Co-exist on a Single Platform

RAD Data Communications has released a new fiber optic multiplexer. The Optimux-134/125 provides a simple and cost-effective solution for transporting multiple TDM links and Ethernet at distances of up to 110 kilometers (68 miles).

The Optimux-134/125 features a Fast Ethernet port enabling a full 100-Mbps Ethernet connection, in addition to the capacity of 16 E1 or 16 T1 channels. The transmission of each of the tributary channels is independent, as the product transports the data and the clocking signals transparently over each TDM link.

Designed for Carriers, Service Providers, Mobile Operators, and Large Enterprises

These new Optimux solutions are specifically designed to address the needs of carriers and service providers, mobile operators and large enterprise applications.

“The migration to all-packetized networks is, of course, affecting telecom infrastructures and services,” states Elad Harf, Optimux product line manager at RAD Data Communications. “But there remains an enormous base of customers that demand both legacy TDM and new packetswitched services,” Harf continues. “Because it is a single-box solution, the Optimux-134/125 enables carriers and service providers to respond to this customer need while reducing their CapEx and OpEx.”

“Mobile operators will find the new Optimux fiber multiplexers ideal for backhauling 2G voice, 3G and HSPA transparently from rural locations to a central site over fiber,” Harf explains. “In such applications, the Optimux acts as a fiber extender over long hops, eliminating the need to deploy multiple devices along the route.”

“In addition, the Optimux-134 and Optimux-125 can be deployed for the multiservice sharing of TDM and Ethernet for voice and data connectivity using a point-to-point topology over dark fiber,” Harf adds. “They answer the needs of university campuses, hospitals and health maintenance organizations, and financial institutions, as well as government offices and military installations.”

AXCESS+ Solutions Portfolio

The Optimux-134 and Optimux-125 are part of RAD’s AXCESS+ multiservice access and first mile solutions portfolio. AXCESS+ offers a wide variety of narrowband and broadband data rates over fiber, copper and wireless infrastructure. AXCESS+ provides a smooth migration path from legacy to next generation packet switched networking and services.
