RAD SHDSL.bis Modem Combines E1 with Ethernet for Legacy and NGN Traffic over 4-Wires

Notches Rates of up to 11.4 Mbps over 2.6 Kilometers (1.6 Miles)

RAD Data Communications has upgraded its ASMi-54 SHDSL.bis modem to support both Ethernet and E1 over the same 4-wire connection.

The easily managed ASMi-54 attains data rates of up to 11.4 Mbps over a distance of 2.6 kilometers (1.6 miles) using 4-wire lines. It accommodates four Ethernet ports connected with an integrated switch alongside an E1 data stream. “The combination of four Ethernet ports and one E1 port, together with the 11.4 Mbps speed reached over 2 wire and 4 wire lines, is what now makes the ASMi-54 a rather unique product in the market,” notes Meira Erez, Product Line Manager at RAD Data Communications.

By employing HDLC encapsulation, the ASMi-54, working opposite SHDSL.bis repeaters, can support Ethernet or a combination of Ethernet and E1 services at higher rates over longer distances.

Implements Advanced Ethernet Standards

The ASMi-54 implements the IEEE’s 802.1p and 802.1q standards to provide VLAN-tagging with four levels of prioritization, enabling carriers to offer differentiated Ethernet services. VLAN tagging can also be employed to separate traffic, ensuring transparency of the customer traffic and bolstering security of management traffic.

Advanced Management, Diagnostic Capabilities Save Costs and Improve Service

Real time alarms provide information on status and indicate management failures, synchronization loss and other conditions for the E1 interface. The ASMi-54 supports performance monitoring and local and remote loopbacks to achieve high Quality of Service (QoS). RADview SNMP management can easily be configured not only from a central site but also from the modem itself in order to facilitate point-to-point applications.
