T1/E1 and Voice over DOCSIS Multi-Line

In less than a decade, cable modem technology has brought broadband Internet connectivity and more recently residential VoIP services to million of customers. Building on this success, multiple service operators (MSOs) worldwide are seeking to deliver Multi-Line Voice services to the lucrative business segment. Typical applications include PSTN access over commercial grade T1/E1 lines and voice trunking between existing PBXs in enterprise networks.

MSOs that operate DOCSIS-based systems (i.e DOCSIS 1.0/1.1/2.0) and target the SME (small to medium-sized enterprise) market are prime candidates for T1/E1 and Multi-Line Voice over DOCSIS technology.

To complete their business service portfolio, MSOs require a cost-effective way to deliver these TDM-based services over their HFC infrastructure. Only then can they aggressively compete with incumbent and alternative carriers offering lucrative leased line services.

A major technological challenge to wide-scale deployment of such a solution is the need to deliver high quality voice services that transparently support the rich features of the huge installed base of PBXs and work equally well with key systems, modems and faxes.

RAD’s Vmux is totally transparent to voice system signaling, enabling users to maintain their existing investment in equipment with no need to retrain or hire new support staff.
