Intelligent SFP Remote Bridge

RAD’s MiRICi-E3/T3 SFP miniature remote bridge connects Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet LANs over framed T3 circuits. The MiRICi-E3/T3 provides T3 connectivity to any Ethernet device with an SFP-compatible, Fast Ethernet or GbE port. Hot-swappable and software-configurable, the intelligent SFP remote bridge is a fully managed device supporting standard GFP encapsulation. It delivers a complete Ethernet over PDH solution in a finger-sized SFP enclosure and enables a quick rollout of new Ethernet services over legacy TDM infrastructure. The MiRICi-E3/T3 is part of RAD’s “System on an SFP” product line.

Gigabit Ethernet over TDM-based WANs

The MiRICi-E3/T3 is an intelligent SFP remote bridge, forwarding Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet traffic to TDM-based WANs at full duplex wire-speed. It enables quick and easy rollout of new Ethernet services over legacy TDM infrastructure, without the need for costly dedicated devices. The MiRICi-E3/T3 SFP bridge simplifies management, while saving space, power consumption and cabling.

 

Allowing service providers to adapt network interfaces as needed, the MiRICi-E3/T3 is ideal for delivering transparent LAN services and providing remote branch connectivity over leased lines and TDM-based WANs, for service providers, private enterprise and campus networks. In addition, it enables remote Ethernet connectivity over T3 radio links.

The MiRICi E3/T3 SFP bridge supports standard GFP encapsulation to allow book-end connections as well as third-party GFP interoperability.

The MiRICi-E3/T3 remote SFP bridge can be monitored, configured, and tested using the following ports and applications:

 

• Out-of-band management via an I2C interface

• Inband management via the Ethernet port using a Web browser

 

The MiRICi-E3/T3 employs remote loopback (RLB) and local loopback (LLB) diagnostics for detecting and troubleshooting physical layer link failures. In addition, it enables WAN to LAN fault propagation alarms.

To avoid overwhelming the WAN port, a flow control mechanism is activated if Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet traffic exceeds the WAN link capacity, sending Pause packets towards the LAN side.

 

The MiRICi-E3/T3 supports multi-source agreement (MSA) product identification codes and can operate opposite another MiRICi-E3/T3, installed on remote equipment.

The MiRICi-E3/T3 operates opposite remote MiRICi units or any Ethernet switch that supports standard GFP encapsulation.

The MiRICi-E3/T3 can be installed on any device that complies with the Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) specifications. Running on power derived from the host device, it requires no additional power supply.
