RAD and BridgeWave Collaborate to Deliver TDM and LAN over Gigabit Ethernet Wireless Radios

Mobile Backhaul Solution Provides Gigabit Wireless Carrier Ethernet Infrastructure with Full TDM Support

June 16, 2008: RAD Data Communications will collaborate with BridgeWave Communications, the leading supplier of gigabit wireless solutions to develop a mobile backhaul solution for transporting Gigabit Ethernet and T1/E1 circuits with improved Quality of Service (QoS) over license-free 60 GHz and lightly-licensed 80 GHz wireless bridges.
The announcement will be made at NXTcomm in Las Vegas, where RAD will be exhibiting at Stand SL-10420.
Deployed together, the RAD-BridgeWave solution can support point-to-point, multipoint and daisy chain topologies with QoS and efficient aggregation of T1/E1 circuits into channelized DS3, OC3 and STM-1 interfaces. This combined transmission system enables mobile carriers to easily extend their Carrier Ethernet networks over multi-hop wireless access infrastructures for high capacity business services, leased line replacement, legacy 2G/2.5G and 3G mobile backhaul, as well as 4G WiMAX and LTE.
BridgeWave's AdaptRate™ products automatically switch between full GigE and 100 Mbps data rates when needed to overcome the temporary effects of intense rain downpours, in order to provide continuous link operation regardless of weather. The integrated solution developed by RAD and BridgeWave enables the system to modify QoS and link prioritization in conjunction with the AdaptRate switching. As a result sensitive traffic such as TDM and VoIP is guaranteed appropriate capacity.

Fiber-Equivalent Performance and Support

"The exponential growth of bandwidth-intensive IP-based services is straining the network operators' existing access and backhaul infrastructure as well as the private enterprise, education, government, and utility networks," said Eitan Schwartz, Vice President of Pseudowire and Ethernet Access at RAD Data Communications, Inc. "This collaboration now provides mobile carriers with fiber-equivalent performance and support for lucrative TDM and leased line services over the same radio links."

Easy Migration Path to Next Generation Services

"As mobile networks evolve, operators are looking for high capacity solutions that allow them to transport their legacy traffic, while offering an easy migration path to next generation services, such as WiMAX and LTE," said Idan Bar-Sade, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Management at BridgeWave Communications. "BridgeWave has taken advantage of an advanced architecture that includes a built-in, wire speed Ethernet switch to provide quick and seamless integration with carrier Ethernet equipment. Additionally, our unique AdaptRate functionality combined with RAD’s QoS capabilities and aggregation efficiency delivers a reliable, 'future-proof' solution to service providers that need to unify their network traffic within a common backhaul architecture."

Support All Pseudowire Standards, Ensure QoS and Enforce SLAs

RAD system products include IPmux TDM pseudowire gateways and the Gmux high capacity pseudowire aggregation gateway. These support all TDM pseudowire standards. They also feature ingress and egress rate limiting with traffic prioritization to ensure QoS and enforce Service Level Agreement (SLA) requirements as well as extensive OAM and performance monitoring capabilities including inband facility loopbacks. For timing sensitive mobile transport applications, the devices offer industry-leading clock recovery mechanisms that conform to G.823/G.824 Sync Interface using G.8261-defined scenarios with frequency accuracy better than 16ppb (parts per billion).
BridgeWave's Gigabit wireless radios are full-rate, full-duplex, and ultra-low latency GigE transport devices that operate in either the license-free 60 GHz or lightly-licensed 80 GHz spectrum. The radios feature AdaptRate technology to ensure all-weather link availability and AdaptPath™ capability for proactive secondary path switching to achieve "five nines" availability over the longest possible link distances.
The highest level of data security is provided through FIPS-certified, 256-bit AES encryption on the radio and SSH encryption and RADIUS authentication in the RAD equipment.
